Brand/Product: Lush – Emotional Brilliance Lipstick.
Colour: Strong is a deep red.
Ingredients: This product is vegan and uses organic fruit and vegetables.
Verdict (Yay or Nay): Yay! Strong is a great lipstick. The colour lasts for hours before needing to be reapplied. As for the shade – wow, it’s orange! (Ed’s note: You can see in the images below that it comes up more red on me than on Kate.) Not having worn orange lippy before it took me a bit of time to get used to it. But the good thing is you can apply it as sparingly or as thick as you like to achieve the intensity you want. Strong is a nice earthy orange that I’ve grown to really like. Although, with this lippy I would definitely recommend trying it with a lipliner to add a bit of definition around the edges. After a while, it bleeds a little.
You can also use this product as a cream blush. I wasn’t so sure about this at first as it is very orange, but it works quite well. The trick is to only use a tiny amount and make sure you rub it properly. It took a bit to get used to the cream blush. I usually use a powder, but actually I found the colour with Strong lasts longer than a powder blush. And the colour as a blush complements the colour of Strong. I’m loving the two in one thing, so handy.
I recommend giving Strong a try if you are looking to try an orange lippy. Generally speaking both olive and dark skin tones look great in orange lippy.
But there’s no doubt the fairer maidens out there can pull off the orange too.
So it seemed that while the fairer skinned amongst us can wear orange, they look best in more reddish orange. But then I saw these gorgeous ladies wearing bright orange with their lily complexions.
But go easy on the eye makeup, so as to avoid looking like a clown. For an added glow just use a bit of bronzer and blush.
Tips: So whatever your colouring, give orange a go! There are plenty of orange lipsticks out there so look around until you find one that suits you. But remember that the skin on the back of your hand (where we typically test lippy) will not be the same colour as the skin on your face. Also, when you first try orange lippy start off with applying a smaller amount and give yourself time to get used to the colour. And then…have fun!
